On December 10, 2012, in
accordance with [DC Code, Section 1-204.02] the membership of the District of
Columbia Democratic State Committee (DCDSC) will “appoint a qualified elector
affiliated with the Democratic Party to fill the vacancy on the Council due
to the election of Councilmember Phil Mendelson as Chairman of the
Council. The appointment is temporary pending the outcome of a Special
Election to be held by the DC Board of Elections and Ethics (DCBOEE) within
70-174 days as established by Law. The candidate who receives 50% plus
one (1) vote of the DCDSC members present and voting will be seated to serve
as interim At-Large Councilmember until the outcome of the Special Election
is known.
Interested
candidates must meet the following requirements
to be placed in consideration
- MUST have legally resided in the
District of Columbia for one (1) year preceding the scheduled appointment.
- MUST have been by Text-Enhance" href="http://dcdemocraticparty.org/">registered
as a Democrat with the DCBOEE on or before December 11, 2011.
- MUST circulate and return
nominating petitions with a minimum of 200 valid signatures of
registered Democrats in the District of Columbia: including at least 25
per Ward and no less than 27 signatures of current DCDSC members.
- Interested candidates MUST
complete a Notification of Candidacy Form when receiving Petitions. If Petitions
are downloaded from the DCDSC website, candidates must file the
electronic notification when downloading the petitions.
- Completed nominating
petitions MUST be accompanied by a Declaration of Candidacy and
Statement of Qualifications/Biographical Sketch (150 words or less each)
as prescribed by the DCDSC.
